Finding the perfect gift is an art—especially when you’re shopping for a runner. With the holidays approaching, some people love playing Santa, while others dread crowded shops and endless queues. Choosing gifts for runners can feel extra challenging because we tend to be particular about our running shoes, nutrition, clothing, and gear. It often takes years of trial and error to discover which tops keep us cool, which leggings stay put, and which accessories actually make running in the rain enjoyable. To celebrate finally running consistently again after a few years off, I’ve created a runner’s gift guide packed with a variety of ideas that should cover the runner in your life. If you need more inspiration, you can also check out my previous gift guides on skiing, travel/outdoors, and menopause.

Stocking stuffers

Here are a few ideas for smaller bits to fill the stockings (or wet compression socks) hanging by the fire.

At the Snow Show London, I tried a new type of gel. It is from Swiss Mountain Rescue and was formulated to use at altitude. However, it tasted good (not too sweet) and was easy on my stomach. It also helps reduce fatigue and sustain endurance. If that doesn’t sound like the perfect running gel, I don’t know what is. Swiss Mountain Rescue also offers electrolytes, deep sleep guppies and anti-anxiety spray.

Many of the clothes I wore in the ’90’s are making a big comeback. One of those items are scrunchies. Wellicious uses their scraps to create zero-waste scrunchies that come in five different colors. Perfect for any running outfit.

Buff has long been staple on my list of running accessories. Their multi-function headwear offers you loads of options when out for a run. The Reflective DryFIx model helps you been seen when running in the dark while drying quickly too.

You can’t go wrong with socks. Nothing beats merino wool socks in the winter if you live somewhere where it snows. Darn Tough’s Pacer Micro Crew offers a whimsical rabbit design on the top and cushioning on the bottom.

If there is a big run achievement that needs celebrating, such as a first marathon or 100 parkruns, order a custom bottle of bubbles from We Brand Any Drink. There are also bottles that are a great thank you gift for your cheer squad who stood all day to see you whizz passed a few times.

Move your feet

Spending so much time on your feet, it is important for runners to take care of their tootsies. Ultimate Performance offers a range of insoles so no matter how high your arch is or how much cushioning you need, you should be able to find your perfect fit. Personally, I like an insole to support my heels.

Gore-Tex road to trail trainers, such as these Salomon Aero Blaze 3 GRVL GTX, will keep your feet dry no matter where your run takes you. Having a versatile shoes that works on different terrains also helps reduce how many pairs of running shoes you need (or does it?).

If your gift recipient is based in the UK, RunThrough gift vouchers will offer numerous opportunities to take part in an organized race. Their events range from 5K to marathons to duathlons and triathlons. There is something for everyone and events are reasonably priced. You can even purchase a membership which can either give you discounted or free entry (depending on which level you pick).

Aside from having an unlimited number of running shoes, runners also like to have unlimited socks. 1000 Mile have recycled single-layer crew socks which use REPREVE (R) recycled fibers which are developed from plastic bottles. The fabric is soft and breathable and also strong, offering padding on the heel, toes, and ball of the foot.

Stay warm

Here in the UK, temps are starting to drop as we progress deeper into the winter. In order to keep runs enjoyable, runners need to find kit that protects their skin while helping regulate their body temperature. Ronhill has wind-block convertible gloves that offer two layers for increased versatility. They are are reflective with silicone grip and a Smart Tips to allow you to use your mobile phone without having to remove your gloves.

If it is very cold out, you may want to wear a thermal layer on your run. TOG24 has these super cool Snowden thermals with a mountain graphic print in turquoise. It is breathable, wicks away moisture, and had a thumbhole so you can tuck the cuffs into your gloves.

For your outer layer, the Paramo Velez jacket delivers lightweight breathable waterproof protection for days on the mountain tops when the weather can change at a moment’s notice. The jacker has strategic ventilation and pack compatibility. Personally, I love the range of colors that the jacket comes in (black, red, or bright blue/purple combo).

After parkrun, throw on this TOG24 Sara Sherpa fleece for comfy vibes while you grab a coffee and catch up with your running friends. Toggles at the hem mean you can adjust the fit to feel like a warm hug. Zippered pockets, half zip neckline, and a relaxed boxy fit make this the perfect way to look and feel great after your morning run or gym session.

For the ladies

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I love a bit of colour. These bright blue sustainable Easy Perfect leggings from Wellicious are high-waisted and made from a premium blend of GOTS-certified organic cotton and biodegradable elastane.

Speaking of sustainability, Nixibody’s award-winning Susie knicker is medium absorbency and VPL free. These are great for both periods and small bladder leaks. Sizing is from pre-teen to 4XL (size 20) giving an option for just about everyone. I also have a discount code PTMOLLIENIXI which will give you 15% off*.

Buff’s DryFIx material also comes in a headband which is reflective and breathable with 4-way stretch. It is also made with 71% recycled content. You can use it to keep your hair back and cover your ears if needed.

For the men

A small lightweight backpack can never go amiss. Osprey’s Duro LT bag has pockets to hold flasks, nutrition, and some gear. It comes in three different sizes for the perfect fit. All of the sizes weight less than a pound too so you will barely notice it on your back (there is a women’s version too, called the Dyna LT).

Ronhill’s Tech Gore-Tex Mercurial jacket 2 is totally windproof, extremely breathable and can easily be packed away. A relaxed fit means you can move freely as you complete your run. The hood, hem, and cuffs are all adjustable. The hood rolls away too so it won’t flap behind you.

If you love running long distances and are looking for a high-performance trail racing shoe designed for speed, efficiency, and durability over medium to long distances, look no further than Ronhill’s Freedom Ultra running shoes. These shoes are true-Fit with a knitted tongue and sturdy heel cup.

One for you, one for me?
